There are many times I get a phone call or message from a family at 2am and the conversation sounds something like this…
Five Steps Toward Removing Fear From Birth
When I talk with expecting families about their upcoming birth I’m often met with big worries and fears about what is about to unfold. This can bind up so much energy and focus that they’re unable to settle in and enjoy the last bits of pregnancy. Let’s talk about practical ways to remove that fear from birth and find a space of confience that will allow you to trust this process.
Story Share: Collette’s Story
I am 20 years old and 3 months after marrying my husband we found out we were pregnant with our baby girl. My mother had 7 babies and they all came super fast, average of about 3 hours. I figured I would be like her because I’m her twin in everything else!
Story Share: Finn’s Story Pt. 2
If you recall where we left off last week, Finn tried to make an early arrival and Mama K was sent home to rest and get ready for a baby at any moment. Read along for the rest of Finn’s first big adventure 🙂
Story Share: Finn’s Story – Pt 1.
This is our first Story Share and I can’t think of a better way to kick things off… You’ll be seeing a Part 1 and Part 2 because this whole story is just too good to trim down. I love that Mama K. shares so much of how her mind and body worked together (and sometimes against eachother) in this experience. I hope you enjoy every bit of this story as much as I have. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* April 22, 2019 was a completely normal Monday. At almost eight months pregnant I went to work, came home, then taught my violin lessons. My back had been bothering me more than usual for the past couple of days, but this was no red flag to me; my back had been out since week 10 of the pregnancy.
6 Things to Remember when Pregnancy feels like it will NEVER end…
If you’ve ever carried a pregnancy to “term” you likely know what I mean when I say, there are days that feel like it will never. ever. end. You feel like your body can’t possibly stretch or grow any more. Then it DOES! You feel like your baby OBVIOUSLY doesn’t want to meet anyone in the outside world. But they DO! Desperation starts to set in because you’re worried that if you “go overdue” you’ll be faced with induction. Or that maybe, just maybe, you’ll be that ONE scientific anomaly that will in fact somehow manage to be pregnant forever.
When All Those Hats Get Heavy {find your space}
I see you. Juggling work, play, drop offs, pick ups, classes, appointments, cleaning your house (shhh… I won’t tell the toilet hasn’t been scrubbed in… a while)… I see you. I feel you. I AM you! Parenting is tough gig. It’s messy and brilliant. Demanding and wonderful. Fulfilling and draining. It’s SO much all at once.
When You Break Your Own Rules {and then have a baby!}
Sometimes you eat a delicious meal, watch (and cry to) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, sit on a labor ball, and eat ice cream with a hint of Castor Oil mixed in… and sometimes… It works.
Date your Doula {date a few!}
Often times, when I get inquiries for birth work what I hear from people is… “Hi, So my friend told me you’re a doula and I’m not super sure what to expect, but I’d really like to hire you for my birth!” Whoa! While I’m SUPER flattered and impressed that you trust your friend THAT much, I’m going to ask for a date first!
The Day I Became “Mama” {My First Birth Story}
As we’re preparing to celebrate the birthday of my biggest baby, I realized, I’ve never written down her birth story. I’ve made a tradition of writing them down on their first birthday as reflection, but with E that just didn’t happen. So… without further ado, I will share with you the experience that changed my life and forever shaped my world (in more ways than one…)
