What is it about breast milk that makes it so good for babies? How long do you really need to breastfeed before it’s no longer beneficial? Once a kid is eating regular foods, breastmilk serves no purpose. Right?
Birth {not a spectator sport}
Often times you’ll hear the labor and birth process likened to a marathon. It’s something a woman builds up and prepares for. She muscles through every. last. second. She puuuuushes through to the very end. While all of this is true, I will say that a marathon requires only a runner.
All The Dirty Work
Thought it would be a grrreeeaaaat idea to deep clean my van today since the sun was shining and it was just so beautiful out…
Practice What You Preach! {here’s to a healthier me!}
All day long, I go on and on about how Mama’s need other Mama’s. . . Mama’s need time. . . Mama’s need a chance to be healthy. . . But man. . . I SUCK at this!
My “Unsuccessful” Birth {no.such.thing.}
As a doula I’ve met with a lot of clients who’ve told me they want to have a “successful birth” or have told me that their first birth was “unsuccessful” and they want to be “more successful” this go around. Let me just say something… EVERY.BIRTH.IS.SUCCESSFUL.
Why My Kid Knows That I’m Santa… {I’m THAT Mom}
I have a 4 year old. She know’s that parents are the sneaky culprits behind the presents “miraculously” appearing under the tree on Christmas morning. And guess what??? She’s okay with it! Oh, we don’t have an Elf on the Shelf either… {Gasp!}
Norah Brooke {A VBAC Success}
A little background– My first birth ended in a C-section. After my son, Liam, was born we found out that even though his head was down, his chin wasn’t tucked and he appeared to be peeking up a bit.It’s apparently known as Brow Presentation. They called it an “emergency”, but to me it wasn’t. His vitals were fine. I was fine. Some doctors just don’t like slow progression. I now feel like I should have fought it. I should have asked for help and tried different positions. However, as soon as you hear the statement “for the safety of the baby” you’re willing to do anything without questioning.
You’re the Goodest {wisdoms from my four year old}
I woke up Monday morning and checked Facebook… {yeah… don’t…do that. just don’t} I immediately felt discouraged and defeated and like nothing I do is worth while. {self-esteem isn’t my forte… obviously}
The Beginning of a Life Long Journey {a {still} birth story}
This post was written 2 1/2 years ago. It has been an honor to share this bit of our life with others, knowing that if even one life is changed, our Daphne’s short life was not in vain. If nothing else, I want our story to resound with {hope}. And let that hope be what shines through it all.
“God Just Needed Another Angel” – and other things NOT to say to a bereaved parent
When someone close to us is grieving – particularly a bereaved parent- our first reaction is to sooth or comfort them somehow. We usually say how sorry we are and then comes the point where we offer some other form of condolence. In our minds, it sounds great. Coming out of our mouths, it still sounds good. Going into the ears of the grieving person it often doesn’t sound so awesome.
